Abstract
This objectives of the study are: 1) the techniques used by the teacher in developing students' vocabulary, 2) the purpose of each technique used by the teacher in the classroom, 3) the problems faced by the teacher in developing students’ vocabulary. This study used descriptive qualitative research. The data are field note, interview transcript and documentation. The collected data was conducted through three steps namely observation, interviews, and documentation. The results of this study showed that 1) there were several techniques used by teachers in developing students’ vocabulary, namely: reading aloud, discussion, translation, giving question and picking word classes, 2) the various techniques made students enthusiastic and not bored while learning took place, so the class could run effectively and efficiently, 3) there were some problems faced by the teacher, namely: classroom management, students’ motivation and vocabulary mastery.
