Abstract

This study aims to study and determine the improvement of students' critical thinking skills in learning algebraic forms with the POE learning model for class VII A at SMP Muhammadiyah 9 Gemolong. This research is a classroom action research conducted in collaboration between researchers and mathematics teachers. Data collection techniques in this study used tests and field notes and documentation. The data analysis technique used in this study is a qualitative and quantitative data analysis technique using critical analysis techniques. The result of this research is the improvement of students' critical thinking ability. Of the 28 students, it can be seen: 1) students who actively interact and are able to formulate the main points of problems during the learning process are 5 students (17.85%), 2) students who are able to express facts during the learning process are 3 students (10.71%) ), 3) students who were able to express opinions/arguments during the learning took place as many as 2 students (7.14%), 4) students who were able to answer questions during the learning took place as many as 6 students (21.42%), 5) students who were able to draw conclusions and working on the tasks given during the learning process as many as 20 students (71.42%) and after taking action, the results obtained: 1) students who actively interact and are able to formulate the main points of problems during learning take place as many as 7 students (25%) , 2) students who were able to express facts during learning took place as many as 5 students (17.85%), 3) students who were able to express opinions/arguments during learning took place as many as 3 students (10.71%), 4) students who were able to answer questions during the learning took place as many as 8 students (28.57%), 5) students who were able to draw conclusions and work on the assignments given during learning as many as 21 students (75% ).
