Abstract

This study aims to find out the types of errors made by students in solving Social Arithmetic story problems in terms of learning styles and based on Newman's procedures and to find out the causes of student errors in solving Social Arithmetic story problems in terms of learning styles and based on Newman's procedures. The research used qualitative research with a qualitative descriptive research design with a descriptive analysis approach. The sample data were resource persons from the research, namely related parties at the research site, namely class VII students who experienced errors in doing math story problems, social arithmetic material and mathematics teaching teachers at SMPN 1 Karang Tengah. The results of the study found that in solving the story problems of Social Arithmetic, students with visual learning styles, students with auditory learning styles, and students with kinesthetic learning styles. For visual learning style students make mistakes in process skills in solving story problems. Auditory learning style students make mistakes in processing skills and writing final answers in solving story problems. Kinesthetic learning style students make mistakes in processing skills and writing final answers in solving story problems. The main causes of visual learning style students, auditory learning style students, and kinesthetic learning style students are less careful in the calculation process, wrong in the calculation process, and wrong in writing conclusions and not writing conclusions.
