Abstract

The birdcage craft industry is a creative sector in Indonesia that holds both economic and cultural value. In Surakarta—specifically the Mojosongo district—there is an active community of birdcage artisans. However, production activities currently take place in individual homes, lacking a dedicated facility to support production, promotion, and education. Consequently, the industry's potential remains underdeveloped in terms of economic growth and community network strengthening. This bamboo craft center design aims to provide a facility that integrates production, training, exhibitions, and community interaction under one roof. The methodology employed includes site observation, interviews with artisans, and precedent studies to inform the design analysis. Beyond fostering birdcage craftsmanship, the facility supports the creation of complementary handicrafts, thereby enhancing product value and variety. The design yields a shared space where artisans can produce, collaborate, and innovate, featuring a dedicated area for MSME sales to serve as a distribution and promotional channel. Ultimately, this project is expected to bolster the artisans' livelihoods and reinforce Mojosongo’s identity as a creative industry hub that champions local craftsmanship.
