Abstract

The research was conducted to improve student learning achievement in economic subject by using the active debate method of Class X student of Muhammadiyah 3 Surakarta academic year 2018/2019. This research is a Classroom Action Research (CAR). The study was conducted in two cycles each cycle consisting of planning, execution, observation, and reflection the actions taken. The subjects of the study were students of Class X IPS SMA Muhammadiyah 3 Surakarta academic year 2018/2019. Which amounted to 21 students. The source of data comes from teachers and learners. The main technique in collecting data using documentation, observation and test, while supporting techniques using quantitative analysis techniques. The results of this study indicate that the application of active debate methods can improve learning achievementof learners in the subject of economic class X IPS in SMA Muhammadiyah 3 Surakarta academic year 2018/2019. This is evidenced by the increase of students learning achievement in the pre cycle of students who reached the KKM as much as 47,62 with an average score of 72,44 increased to 81% with an average score of 76,44 in the first cycle and students who reached the KKM of 100% with an average value of 81,19 on cycle II. The conclusion of this research is the application of active debate learning models can improve student achievement of class X IPS SMA Muhammadiyah 3 Surakarta academic year 2018/2019.
