Abstract

Malang is a city with rich artistic and cultural diversity, shaped by local history, community traditions, and contemporary art activities supported by creative communities. However, this development has not been balanced by the availability of adequate, integrated, and representative cultural spaces. Artistic and cultural activities are still carried out separately in various locations with limited facilities, preventing them from functioning optimally as spaces for education, production, appreciation, and sustainable cultural interaction. This condition indicates the need for a facility capable of reintroducing local cultural values within the context of contemporary urban life, while also supporting the growth of the creative economy in Malang, particularly in the field of arts. The design of an Arts & Cultural Center in Malang aims to accommodate artistic and cultural activities in an integrated manner. A contextual architectural approach is applied to interpret local cultural values, characteristics, and identity into adaptive architectural elements. This approach is expected to produce a modern and contextual building that remains rooted in local cultural values. The design method is carried out through site context analysis, studies of activities and spatial requirements, and the translation of local cultural values into concepts of form, spatial organization, and architectural elements. The final design is expected to become an inclusive, adaptive, and representative public cultural space, while also contributing to strengthening the identity of Malang through architecture that is relevant to contemporary developments.
