Abstract

This study aims to identify women as the main breadwinners depicted in the film The Breadwinner (2017) directed by Nora Twomey. This research analyzes the role of women as the main breadwinner in The Breadwinner (2017), the struggle of women as the main breadwinner in the film, and gender equality issues reflected in the film. This researcher uses feminism theory to analyze the data. This research was conducted using descriptive qualitative research method. The data of this research are in the form of sentences, dialogs, and scenes in the film The Breadwinner (2017) which are in accordance with the research topic. This research uses the movie The Breadwinner (2017) as the primary data source and secondary data sources are obtained from journals that are in accordance with the research topic. The results showed that the role of women breadwinners is as family leaders and livelihood seekers. There is a struggle of women in the main livelihood by disguising themselves as men, struggling against social norms, and courage to face risks. Gender equality issues reflected in the movie include limited access to education, employment discrimination, and limited movement.
