Abstract

This study focuses on trafficking of children for adoption as a way of dealing with chronic poverty is an activity in which the child is given up for adoption and the family receives money from the adoptive family to get out of poverty and make a living. This research method uses library data. This type of research is qualitative research and the author will use the humanistic aspects of the novel. This study uses two data, primary data and secondary data. The novel And the Mountains Echoed by Khaled Hosseini as primary data, the sources were obtained from books, papers, theses, dissertations, encyclopedias, internet, and journals related to the issues and topic of the research as secondary data. This study aims to (1) find out about child trafficking for adoption as a way to save them from poverty as reflected in And the Mountains Echoed (2013), (2) understand how the main character (Pari) in And the Mountains Echoed (2013) deal with the problems of the effects of child trafficking, (3) reveals the reasons why the author discusses trafficking of children for adoption as a way to save them from poverty reflected in And the Mountains Echoed (2013). The theory used in this study is the humanistic approach by Maslow’s five levels of human needs.
