Abstract
In the world of education, what must be considered for students is the character and individual differences. Students are directed to be able to develop their potential for independence without any pressure, coercion or violence from the teacher. This study aims to describe student learning independence in the Group Algebra Structure course through virtual class-based learning at Muhammadiyah University Surakarta students in the 2020/2021 academic year. Data collection techniques used in the form of questionnaires, interviews, and documentation. The subjects of this study were five students of class VE Mathematics Education study program. The validity of the data using the triangulation method. The data was processed using percentage and descriptive analysis. The results showed that the level of student learning independence in the Group Algebra Structure course through virtual class- based learning was in the high category, on the six indicators of student learning independence, namely discipline 80.49%, initiative 75.88%, self-confidence 72.86%. , motivation 77.84%, and evaluating learning outcomes 70.98%. Meanwhile, the responsibility indicator of 85.88% is in the very high category.
