Abstract
The study was to determine the effect of adding magnesium powder in the aluminum – stainless steel brazing process for mechanical properties.The specimens in this research were used aluminium series 1000, stainless steel series 304, Filler ER4043 alusol, and magnesium powder. The specimen was manufactured based on the ASTM D1002 standard. Tensile and hardness tests were carried out to analyze the mechanical properties of the brazed joints The results showed that the tensile strength decreased with the addition of magnesium powder. The highest tensile strength is 8.9 MPa. While specimens without magnesium powder obtained higher tensile strength of 11 MPa. As for the hardness results on specimens with the addition of magnesium powder obtained a value of 43.45 VHN, then on specimens without the addition of magnesium powder obtained a value of 238.25 VHN
