Abstract

This study aims to describe the accuracy, effectiveness, constraints, and solutions to the implementation of the Reading Guide combination Teams Games Tournaments (TGT) strategy to improve the understanding of Indonesian Democratic values in class VIII F students of SMP Negeri 3 Kartasura in the academic year 2019/2020. This study used a mixed methods Pre-experimental type with One Group Pretest Posttest Design and used all samples totaling 20 people. Data collection techniques in this study used tests, observations, and interviews. Test the validity of the test instruments in this study using the rough number Correlation Product Moment formula. The reliability test in this study uses the KR20 formula. Data analysis using T-test. The average value of Pretest 5.59 increased to 11.52 at Posttest. The results of the two data are then compared so that a difference value of 8.3 is obtained. Based on these results it can be concluded that the hypothesis proposed by H₀ is rejected and Hₐ is accepted, meaning that there is a difference in understanding the values of Indonesian Democracy in Grade VIII F students of SMP Negeri 3 Kartasura in the academic year 2019/2020 between before (Pretest) and after being given treatment (Posttest) by applying the Reading Guide combination of Teams Games Tournaments (TGT) strategy. The constraints faced in this study are the distance traveled and the limited time. An alternative solution to overcome these obstacles is that researchers arrive ahead of schedule and must be very clever in managing their time well. The above conclusion implies that teachers who want student understanding related to Indonesian Democratic values to be high, it is very appropriate to implement the Reading Guide combination Teams Games Tournaments (TGT) strategy.
