Abstract

Factors that can affect uric acid levels include purine intake and waist circumference. This study aims to determine the relationship of purine intake and waist circumference with blood uric acid levels. This type of research is an observational study with cross sectional design with 53 subjects. The sampling technique uses Simple Random Sampling. Purine intake data was obtained with semi-quantitative food frequency questionnaire last month, waist circumference was measured using a measuring tape and gout data was obtained using an easy touch food uric acid test strips. Statistical analysis using the Pearson Product Moment test. Respondents had a low purine intake of 62.3%, respondents had an abnormal waist circumference of 60.4%. Bivariate results showed a relationship between purine intake and uric acid levels (p = 0.001; r = 0.747) and there was a relationship between purine intake and waist circumference (p = 0.044; r = 0.278). There is a relationship between intake of purines, and waist circumference with blood uric acid levels. The need to apply a healthy lifestyle for the elderly to maintain uric acid levels and waist circumference.
