Abstract

The purposes of this study are: (1) to describe the type of corrective feedback applied by the teacher in teaching speaking in the eleventh grade at SMAN 1 Nogosari Boyolali; and (2) the dominant type of feedback applied by the teacher. This type of research is qualitative descriptive research. The data were student’s speech errors and teacher corrective feedback obtained from field note, transcript and document analysis. The data sources are teaching speaking, English teachers and students. The data are collected through observation, interviews, and document analysis and the data are analyzed using data reduction, data display, and drawing conclusions. The results of this study indicate that teachers use feedback types (1) metalinguistic feedback, (2) recast, (3) clarification request, (4) elicitation, (5) repetition, and (6) explicit in responding to student mistakes in learning to speak. The dominant type of corrective feedback applied by the teacher in teaching speaking is repetition with an amount of 35.6%.
