Abstract

This research aims to (1) describe the sociohistorical setting of Putu Wijaya's drama drama Operation, (2) describe the structure that builds the drama play Operation Putu Wijaya's, (3) describe the social criticism in the play's drama Operation Putu Wijaya with the review of Sociology of Literature, (4) describes the implementation of social criticism in the play script of Operation by Putu Wijaya as literary teaching material in high school. This research uses descriptive qualitative method with the object of research is social criticism in the drama drama Operation. Data collection is carried out by using library, listening and note taking techniques. The validity of the data uses the theory triangulation technique. The data analysis technique was carried out using the dialectical method. The results of this study are (1) Putu Wijaya in creating his works is not just like that, without any intentions. The intentions made by Putu Wijaya are based on the conditions that are seen, heard and felt, so that they are also used as the writing style, that is, starting from what is available. Putu Wijaya's published works include drama scripts, novels, short stories, poetry collections and essay collections, (2) the structure of Operational drama scripts, among others, the theme raised is to tell about the social and cultural life that was hit by the crisis during this globalization period so many people are not grateful for themselves and want to make everything for commercial interests. Story facts, a) the plot used is the forward plot, b) the main character is the Doctor and Patient, c) the setting where this manuscript is located in a beauty clinic, the time setting occurs in the afternoon, social setting (3) social criticism in the drama script Operations are aspects of culture, aspects of the social environment, and economic aspects, (4) this study is in accordance with the criteria for the selection of teaching materials namely a) aspects of language, b) aspects of psychology, c) aspects of student backgrounds so that they can be implemented as teaching materials in high school classes XI in accordance with KD 3.1 Understanding the structure and rules of text short stories, rhymes, retelling stories, complex expansion, and film / drama.
