Abstract
The purpose of this study is to improve the understanding of students' mathematical concepts through Mind Mapping learning strategies in class VIII PK 1 of Muhammadiyah Middle School 1 Surakarta Academic Year 2018/2019. The type of research used is classroom action research. Data collection techniques use the method of observation, tests, field notes, and documentation. Data analysis techniques using data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and verification or conclusion. The results of the study indicate an increase in understanding of students' mathematical concepts with indicators: 1) The ability to restate a concept before there are actions as many as 4 students (23.52%), in the first cycle as many as 5 students (29.41%), and in cycle II there were 10 students (58.83%). 2) Ability to present concepts in various forms of mathematical representation before the action of 7 students (41.17%), in the first cycle as many as 9 students (52.94%), and in the second cycle as many as 12 students (70.58%). 3) Ability to use, utilize and select certain procedures before the action as many as 6 students (35.29%), in the first cycle as many as 8 students (47.05%), and in the second cycle as many as 14 students (82.35%).
