Abstract
Mathematics Education Study Program. Teacher Training and Education Faculty, Muhammadiyah University Surakarta. March, 2019. This study aims to describe the difficulties of students in solving the story problems of a linear two-variable system based on Polya's steps in terms of cognitive style. In this study the method used is a qualitative descriptive research method, while the data collection method is tests and interviews. This research was conducted on class VIII Gondangrejo Middle School 2 N. 4 research subjects consisted of 2 students cognitive styles of Dependent (FD) and Field Independent (FI) styles. Differences from the four subjects in receiving and processing information. The subject of FD has difficulty in implementing the completion plan, carrying out the settlement and checking the resolution of the problem. while FI subjects experienced difficulties in understanding the concept of SPLDV material. The results showed that FI subjects in solving questions were more coherent and detailed than FD subjects. The subject of FD experiences difficulties in mathematical operations in the step of carrying out problem solving. these difficulties cause errors in the results of the answers obtained.
