Abstract

Indonesian Language and Literature Education. Faculty of Science and Teacher Training. Muhammadiyah Surakarta University. November 2018. This study has three objectives, (1) describe the structure of editorial texts from Kompas newspapers, (2) describe the modalities of editorial texts from Kompas newspapers, and (3) describe the implementation of editorial texts as teaching materials for Indonesian subject of grade 12 in high school. This study is qualitative descriptive. Data in this study are words, phrases, sentences, paragraphs, and discourse. The data sources are in the form of ten editorial texts published by the Kompas newspaper during September-October 2018. The technique of collecting data uses the technique of referring and noting. The data analysis technique uses the agih method with marking reading techniques and referential equivalent methods. The results of this study are (1) the structure of the editorial text consisting of three parts, namely (a) statement of opinion, (b) argumentation, and (c) restatement of opinion, (2) the modalities contained in editorial texts are of five types, namely (a) intentional modality, (b) epistemic modality, (c) deontic modality, (d) dynamic modality, and (e) aletic modality, (3) the implementation of editorial texts as teaching materials for Indonesian subject of grade 12 of the curriculum 2013 especially KD 3.6 Analyzing the structure and language of the editorial text.
