Abstract
This study aims to describe the assessment, implementation and constraints in the assessment process through the assessment of portfolios in learning mathematics subject of building space pasa student class VIII even semester SMP Muhammadiyah Al Kautsar 2016/2017. The subjects of this study are class VIII ARF SMP Muhammadiyah Al Kautsar Special Program which amounted to 35 students. Data collection techniques use observation, interview, test and documentation. Validity of data is done by triangulation technique that is by comparing data result from observation, interview, test, and documentation. Techniques of data analysis money used interactive analysis through data collection, data reduction and conclusion. The results of this study indicate that, to show that, teachers prepare RPP, pre-test, LKK, and post-test used to determine the ability of students, while the implementation of portfolio assessment by applying the stages of preparation, implementation and constraints in the process of portfolio assessment. Implementation of portfolio assessment can increase activity in discussion, courage in opinion and assist students in determining attitude and skill better. Obstacles encountered in the study are the lack of creative teachers in making student worksheets and group worksheets, making assessment rubrics, class conditions that are less supportive of teaching and learning activities, and scoring portfolio assessment.
