Abstract
This study aims to analyze the understanding of the concept of Straight Line Equations and to analyze the factors that inhibit the understanding of the concept of Straight Line Equations with the type of cognitive style of Field Independent (FI) and Field Dependent (FD) in grade VIII students. The concept comprehension in this study has four indicators, which are re-states a concept, classifies objects according to certain properties, uses and selects certain procedures or operations, and summarizes the results. Research subjects were four students from grade VIII B SMP Negeri 1 Gatak Sukoharjo. Data collection techniques and instruments in this study are tests, interviews, and documentation. The validity of the data using triangulation method, while data analysis techniques using reduction, data presentation, and verification. The results of this study indicate that: (1) Field Independent type (FI) students have met indicators reiterating a concept and an indicator of classifying objects by certain traits, but not yet meeting indicators using and choosing specific procedures or operations, and indicators concluding results. (2) The Field Dependent (FD) student on the indicator reiterates a concept of only one subject on the first question that does not meet. In the indicator classify objects according to certain properties only on problem number two that does not meet. On indicators use and choose a particular procedure or operation, and the indicator concludes the results of all subjects do not meet. (3) Some of the inhibiting factors of understanding the concept of Straight Line Equation that students have not understood the material of Straight Line Equations well, hastily and inadequately in solving the problem, have not mastered the basic calculation, forgot or lazy in writing the final answer.
