Abstract

Agung Prabowo Laksono Aji, A320140218. THE IMPLEMENTATION OF INQUIRY-BASED LEARNING FOR THE TEACHING OF ENGLISH AT SMA NEGERI 1 COLOMADU IN 2017/2018 ACADEMIC YEAR. Muhammadiyah University of Surakarta, 2018. This study aims to describe the implementation of Inquiry-Based Learning for the teaching of English at SMA Negeri 1 Colomadu in 2017/2018 academic year focusing on teaching components such as classroom techniques, teacher’s roles, and student’s roles. This research is a descriptive qualitative research. The subjects of the research are an English teacher and tenth grade students of SMA Negeri 1 Colomadu. The methods of collecting data are observation, interview, and document. The techniques of analyzing data are data reduction, data display, conclusion and verification. The results of the research show that 1) Classroom techniques are skimming and scanning, previewing and answering questions, reading aloud, question and answer, individual assignment, discussion, and oral presentation; 2) the teacher’s roles are as facilitator, motivator, controller, planner, and manager; 3) the student’s roles are as planner, performer, tutor for other learners, monitor and evaluator of his/her own progress, and a member of a group who learns by interacting with others.
