Abstract
This study aims to determine the patterns of discounts made Matahari Department Store, Centro Department Store, and Metro Department Store and legal protection of consumers involved in the award discount. Research method through normative approach (doctrinal) with research type is descriptive. Sources of data consist of secondary data namely library study and primary data in the form of interviews as a supporter. Methods of data collection through literature study and interview, then the data were analyzed qualitatively. The result of the research shows that the discounting patterns made by Department Store are basically the same ie free discount to the consumer, besides it also gives big discount with the aim to spend the stock of goods or clothes that do not sell. While the legal protection of consumers involved in discounting by Department Store refers to the regulations in Law No. 8 of 1999 which aims to ensure that the obligations and rights between business actors and consumers are balanced and fair, for example if consumers find damage to goods purchased, can return the goods with the note that the goods still have a receipt of expenditure with a certain time limit and if using a credit card and debit consumers are required to submit proof of payment.
