Abstract
The purpose of this study there are three. (1) to describe the structure of poetry by Sapardi Djoko Damono; (2) to describe the diction of Sapardi Djoko Damono's poetry; and (3) to describe the implementation of the result of poetry analysis by Sapardi Djoko Damono as teaching material. This research uses decriptive qualitative method. The study design uses a genetic stylistic approach focused on the theory of diction. The approach is done by analyzing the linguistic system of the literary works as a whole meaning. Data collection is a content analysis document technique, see & record, in-depth interview. In this research triangulation used is the triangulation of source and triangulation theory. Research data are structurally analyzed consisting of themes, feelings, tones, and messages. Research data is analyzed by diction which consist of denotative meaning and connotative meaning. The analysis result of both structurally and diction is developed based on KD. 16.1 class 8 used as teaching materials. KD 16.1 is to write free poems by using the appropriate word choice.
