Abstract
The purpose of this study is to describe the intrinsic elements and independent characters contained in the novel Luka Cita by Valerie Patkar (LCkVP) and its relevance as literature teaching material in class XI SMA. This research uses descriptive qualitative approach with content analysis technique. The subject of this research is intrinsic elements and independent characters according to the pancasila student profile (PPP) in the novel. The results showed (1) intrinsic elements in the novel include theme, plot, character and characterization, setting, point of view, mandate, language style, (2) independent character according to PPP contained in this novel, namely: 1) believe in one's own ability, 2) able to overcome problems, 3) able to overcome himself, and 4) able to complete tasks and responsibilities. The results of the analysis of the novel (LCkVP) can be used as material delivered to students, namely regarding messages in the form of characters from one novel. Researchers found independent characters that are often found in social life. The results of these findings are then used as Indonesian language teaching materials in high school.
