Abstract

The purpose of this study: (1) To describe the structure of the film Sang Pencerah. (2) Describe the social aspects in the film Sang Pencerah. (3) Describe the relevance of social aspects in the film Sang Pencerah as teaching materials in junior high schools. This research is a type of qualitative descriptive research with the object of research on social aspects in the film Sang Pencerah which was released in 2010. The research data is in the form of dialogues and scenes that contain social aspects. Data collection techniques use two stages, namely observation and documentation. The research data validation technique uses triangulation of data sources. The analysis technique used is the semiotic model reading method which includes heuristic and hermeneutic reading. Based on the results of research on the film Sang Pencerah, it was found (1) the structure of the film which includes the theme (Islamic renewal), plot (forward), rounded characters: Ahmad Dahlan (steadfast, angry, patient, forgiving), flat characters: Siti Walidah (good) , Kyai Kamaludiningrat (arrogant), Kyai Muhammad Noor (wise), place setting (Kauman, Jogjakarta Palace, Langgar Kidul, Dutch School, Lempuyangan Station and Monument Station), time setting starting from 1868 to 1912 (44 years), social background In this film, the life of religious communities is always looked up to and has great influence. (2) social aspects include religion (praying, lectures, recitation, prayer, veiling, and giving alms), politics (position), art (violin), symbols (break, table and chairs), and tradition (padusan). (3) the research results for the film Sang Pencerah are in accordance with the basic competence (KD) 3.11 class VIII contained in the 2013 curriculum, namely analyzing the information contained in the film. The film Sang Pencerah is relevant for use as teaching materials in junior high schools because it meets the criteria for teaching materials, namely language aspects, psychological aspects, and environmental aspects.
