Abstract
udents communicate in offensive language, both with friends and teachers. This can be seen when learning takes place there are still some students when interacting using ridicule, satire, and direct criticism so that it hurts others or uses vulgar diction. The purpose of this study was to analyze the form of strengthening politeness in class V students at one of the public elementary schools in Pacitan Regency in learning activities. The method in this study uses a qualitative approach with a case study design. Sources of data in this research are dialogues between students and their friends and also students and their teachers. The data obtained is in the form of student speech during the learning activities. Data collection techniques in this study used observation, documentation and interview methods. Data analysis techniques include data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and data verification. The results showed that there were two responses given by the teacher in giving reinforcement, namely positive responses and negative responses. In giving a positive response the teacher adheres to the five maxims of politeness. Compliance with the politeness maxims found includes the maxim of wisdom, the maxim of generosity, the maxim of praise, the maxim of modesty, and the maxim of praise. whereas in giving a negative response the teacher violates the generosity maxim.
