Abstract

Poetry is a literary work that is very popular among students. This is because poetry is a way of expressing yourself that is quite easy. Poetry cannot only be interpreted by the author, but will only be complete if it is also interpreted by the reader. This is interesting because the perceptions of readers in studying poetry vary due to different points of view. This study aims to analyze the aesthetic value of the June rain poem and describe the variations in student perceptions of the aesthetic value of the June rain poem. This research was conducted using qualitative research methods and a literary reception approach. The data from this study are poetry in June rain and student opinions. Both data were taken from a collection of June rain poems and students from various universities. Data is collected by observing and recording techniques and surveys or questionnaires. The data were analyzed using the hermeneutic and percentage heuristic techniques. The data is also validated using theoretical triangulation. The results of the study reveal that the aesthetic value of the poem is found in verse, enjambment, figure of speech, diction, ambiguity, contradiction, and nonsense. Most of the students' perceptions considered that the aesthetic value of the June rain poem was in diction or word choice. The general benefit of this research is that researchers and readers can understand how students interpret a poem and how a poem is called good or not from a student's point of view.
