Abstract
This study aims to determine the relationship between self-image and conformity with the consumptive behavior of cosmetic products in female students at the Muhammadiyah University of Surakarta. The subjects in this study were active female students at Muhammadiyah University of Surakarta who used cosmetic products, totaling 200 people. The sampling technique in this study used snowball sampling. This study uses a quantitative correlational approach using self-image scale, conformity scale, and consumptive behavior scale. Data analysis used the Multiple Linear Regression analysis test using the SPSS 16.0 application. The results of multiple linear regression analysis show that there is a relationship between self-image and consumptive behavior of cosmetic products as indicated by F=12.063 with sig. 0.01 (p<0.05) and (r) = -0.230, which means that there is a significant negative relationship between self-image and cosmetic product consumptive behavior. There is a positive relationship between conformity and consumptive behavior of cosmetic products shown by F=14.567 with sig. 0.00 (p <0.01) and (r) = 0.264, which means that there is a very significant positive relationship. The effective contribution of self-image and conformity variables was 3.40% and 5.41%, while 91.2% was contributed by other factors. The categorization of research results showed that UMS female students had self-image in the high category, conformity in the medium category, and consumptive behavior in the low category. In general, female students at the Muhammadiyah University of Surakarta have high self-image and low conformity, so that their consumptive behavior is low.
