Abstract

The objectives of the research are: 1) To describe the implementation of speaking program for students in MTsN 2 Sukoharjo during pandemic era; 2) To analyze the effectiveness of speaking habit program for students in MTsN 2 Sukoharjo during pandemic era based on the teacher and students’ perspectives; and 3) To identify the strengths and weaknesses of speaking habit program in MTsN 2 Sukoharjo.The type of the research is qualitative research. The subject of this research is the English teacher and 10 students of MTsN 2 Sukoharjo. The object of this research is the activities of speaking habit program named English Day for students of MTsN 2 Sukoharjo during pandemic era. To get the data, the researcher used observation, interview, and documentation. The implementation of speaking habit program for students namely English Day at MTsN 2 Sukoharjo during pandemic era covers setting the work program by the English teacher and tutors before doing habituation activities. The effectiveness of speaking habit program for students namely English Day at MTsN 2 Sukoharjo during pandemic era based on the teacher and students’ perspectives are that the application of this strategy aims to keep speaking habit program and activities going on even in the Covid -19 pandemic. The strengths of speaking habit program namely English Day at MTsN 2 Sukoharjo are: The English teachers can improve their potency to achieve in conducting instructional material. The variety of speaking material and activities in English Day can enlarge student’s knowledge in teaching-learning engagement. The weaknesses are that the materials do not allow learner to progress at their own rate of learning. It does not allocate the different style of learning. In some speaking activities, teacher almost gets hindrances to arouse the students’ competency from two direction are higher than other.
