Abstract

Background: Pasir Kencana Beach in Pekalongan faces coastal waste and tidal flooding that disrupt mobility, public space quality, tourism, and local economic activities. These conditions require an adaptive waste management facility integrated with community activities through a Natural Behavior approach. Objective: This design aims to develop a Coastal Waste Management Center integrated with a sky bridge, public spaces, and MSME activities through a Natural Behavior approach. Methods: The design employed a qualitative-descriptive method through literature reviews, precedent studies, site observations, environmental condition analysis, user activity analysis, and circulation analysis. The Natural Behavior approach was implemented through circulation arrangements, spatial relationships, ease of orientation, and design elements that encourage users to maintain environmental cleanliness. Results: The design resulted in a single-level sky bridge providing flood-safe mobility routes, a sunset view deck, connections to the coastal embankment and residential areas, and MSME areas. The waste management system includes waste collection, sorting, processing, and transportation facilities, supported by a filtration system utilizing tidal currents. Conclusion: Integrating waste management, sky bridge infrastructure, public spaces, and MSME activities through the Natural Behavior approach produces an adaptive and functional coastal design that supports environmental sustainability and community activities.
