Abstract

The background of this study is based on the low motivation of students to learn that is often found in Islamic education learning in various schools. This study aims to analyze the implementation process, similarities and differences, impact, and SWOT analysis of the application of operant conditioning in increasing student learning motivation in Islamic education learning at SMK Bina Taruna Masaran and SMK 10 November Sukodono. This research uses descriptive qualitative research methods with a psychological approach, and collects data through interviews, observation, and documentation. The results showed that the implementation of operant conditioning is effective in increasing students' learning motivation through the application of positive, negative, and punishment reinforcement. Teachers provide praise, gifts, task removal, and educational punishments such as push-ups or reading material to shape student behavior. There are differences in the reinforcement methods in the two schools, where SMK Bina Taruna Masaran uses material rewards, while SMK 10 November Sukodono applies ice breaking and initial motivation. The positive impacts of this approach include increased enthusiasm for learning, active participation, and strengthening student character. However, there are negative impacts in the form of potential psychological pressure and student dependence on external rewards. SWOT analysis shows that the main strength of this method lies in positive reinforcement, while threats include teacher inconsistency and potential conflict with parents. Therefore, a balance between external reinforcement and the development of intrinsic motivation is needed to create a conducive and effective learning environment.
