Abstract

This study explores the types of directive speech acts found in the uncharted movie scripts. Directive speech acts are those that aim to get the listener to perform an action, and they include ordering, warning, questioning, commanding, requesting. The research uses the framework of speech acts theory, particularly Vidal (2012) classification of directive speech acts, to analyze the dialogues in the movie. The objectives of the research are to classify types of directive speech acts found in the uncharted (2022) movie. This types of the research used descriptive quantitative methods. The data were collected from the scene and dialogue of the movie in the forms of directive speech acts in the uncharted movie which lasted 1 hour 55 minutes. The data were analyzed using speech theory of yin (2016), There are three techniques for analyzing data in this research namely; data reduction, data display, conclusion drawing or verification. From the analysis, the findings indicate that the types of directive speech acts found in the movie are ordering, commanding, warning, questioning and requesting.
