Abstract

In order to know the use of fractional block media to help students' understanding in learning the concept of fractions in grade III elementary school students, students' understanding of a material is not only because the teacher in delivering the material there are many factors that influence one of the learning media used or not using learning media in conveying the material. material. The research design used in this study is a case study research design with descriptive qualitative research methods and using data validity, namely triangulation of data sources and triangulation of data collection techniques. From the research conducted, it can be analyzed that students better understand the basic concepts of mathematics by using fractional block media when teaching and learning activities are filled by all students in grades III sd n 3 Putatsari as many as 25 students or respondents, although there are some students who do not like the subject. mathematics but by using fractional block media it is easier to understand the material presented by the teacher and students are more interested in the material presented by the teacher because the fractional block media can be used directly by students with or without teacher assistance which is carried out cooperatively during teaching and learning activities so that students will better understand the ongoing subject matter but in reality many teachers do not use the media so that it is not uncommon for teachers to repeat the same material in the future so that it has an impact on not completing the material in one semester due to repetition of material at class. teaching and learning activities. It can be concluded that the third grade students of SD N 3 Putatsari find it easier to understand the basic concepts of fractions using fractional blocks as an auxiliary medium in mathematics.
