Abstract

Instagram as a social media with various features makes it easy for users to share photos and short videos that can be fun, and not controlled can cause addiction. Teens who are addicted will become very dependent on social media, so they spend time just to achieve satisfaction. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between self-regulation and the intensity the use of social media Instagram in adolescents. This study uses a quantitative approach with 134 subjects using a purposive sampling. The measuring instrument used is the intensity scale of social media use and self-regulation, while to test the relationship between the two variables using the product-moment analysis method, which shows a positive relationship between self-regulation and the intensity of social media use to Instagram users with a value of sig 1 tailed = 0.531 (p>0.05) so that the hypothesis proposed by the researcher was rejected. That is, the higher the self-regulation a person has, the higher the intensity of using Instagram social media, and vice versa. This happens because teenagers are able to control their behavior and know the risks that will occur if they play instagram excessively. Keywords: self regulation, intensity, instagram, teenager
