Abstract

The study aims to describe and analyze students' problem-solving abilities in solving story problems based on Polya's theory of Three-Variable Linear Equation System (SPLTV) material in 10th grade of Abadiyah Islamic Senior High school of Gabus, Pati. It uses descriptive qualitative research methods. The subjects of study are three students who have excellent problem solving skills, three students who have good problem solving abilities, three students who have sufficient problem solving abilities, three students who have worse problem solving abilities, and three students who have the worst problem solving abilities from 10th grade of Science One and 10th grade of Science Two of Abadiyah Islamic Senior High School of Gabus, Pati which are selected according to the students' problem solving ability category. Data collection techniques are the form of tests, interviews and documentation. Data analysis techniques use data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The result shows that the students' problem-solving abilities in solving story problems based on Polya's theory of Three-Variable Linear Equation System Material has different abilities. it is shown that students who have excellent, good, adequate, insufficient, and lacking of problem solving abilities have similarities and differences in students' problem solving abilities.
