Abstract
The development of technology in today's metalworking demands an improvement in terms of design and designs of lightweight and robust structures. The purpose of this research is to know the effect of etching in the brazing process between mild steel and aluminium against micro structures and mechanical properties. Specimens in this study were used in 6000 series aluminium, mild steel, Alusol ER4043, and HNO3 etching fluid. In this research standard for specimen making is ASTM D1002. Micro-photo test is done to compare the condition of aluminium surface and mild steel with and without etching treatment. The results showed that the tensile strength was increased by etching treatment. The highest tensile strength in the 40-minute etching treatment is 28.101 MPa. While the specimen without etching treatment is obtained lower tensile strength of 9,267 MPa. Microphoto testing resulted in a significant comparison between the metal and no etching treatment, where it was apparent that the gaps or pores were seen in the specimen with an etching treatment for 40 minutes.
