Abstract
To be able to understand a subject matter in mathematics, students are expected to be able to have mathematical abilities to face the upcoming global challenges, in order to avoid the mistakes made in solving a problem. These errors include errors in solving problems. the objectives to be achieved in this research are to describe and analyze problem solving errors in solving mathematical problems based on the Polya theorem of number patterns in grade VIII students of SMP Negeri 3 Polokarto. This type of research used in this study is qualitative research. Data analysis techniques used were written tests, interviews and documentation. The subject taking technique is based on the results of the test scores and certain considerations in order to obtain 3 class VIII E subjects with a high error category. Based on the results of the analysis found that students with high errors are not able to understand the problem, plan the problem, solve the problem properly, and only some of the subjects re-examine the work. The conclusion that can be drawn is that students have not applied problem solving errors based on Polya's theorem.
