Abstract

This study aims to determine the development and effectiveness of the use of instructional media on volcanic animation video material in MAN 1 Surakarta. The development model uses 4D (Define, Design, Development, Disseminate). The study design uses two-group pretest - posttest. Sampling using purposive sampling with 66 respondents consisting of 33 respondents namely class X IPS 1 as the control class, and 33 respondents namely class X IPS 3 as the experimental class. The data analysis technique used is the T-test. The results showed that (1) the results of the development in the form of assessment of animated video products conducted by material experts were 4.2, while media experts were 4.6, and assessments from teachers and students were 4.6. The results of the assessment are included in the "good" category. (2) The effectiveness of the use of animated video media is obtained by the n-gain experimental class which is 0.724 and belongs to the "HIGH" category, while the control class is only 0.388 and belongs to the "MEDIUM" category. T-test results show that H0 is rejected and H1 is accepted. This shows an increase in student learning outcomes by using video animation media more effectively than conventional method
