Abstract
Teacher's presence in learning is the key to learning. In primary schools that were targeted for research, many students only followed their teacher when taught a method of work in the field of mathematics. Where in the theory there are many ways that can be taken to solve the problems given by the teacher. They only capture what has been explained by the teacher without thinking of other ways to solve these mathematical problems. The purpose of this study was to describe 1) the fifth grade mathematics learning process, 2) the teacher's efforts to optimize the creative thinking skills of fifth grade students, 3) the role of teachers in optimizing the creative thinking skills of fifth grade students in mathematics learning at SD N 2 Lumbungkerep. This type of research is descriptive qualitative research. In this qualitative study the research subject was a fifth grade teacher at Lumbungkerep Elementary School 2. Data collection techniques using the method of interviews, observation, and documentation. The data analysis technique used includes the data collection phase of data collection, data presentation and data verification. The results of the study indicate that in the process of learning mathematics, students still need guidance from the teacher. Some students are seen easily accepting material. But there are some who need more time to receive material. The efforts made by the teacher in optimizing students' creative thinking skills are by giving questions in the form of story problems and problem solving. The role of the teacher as an educator, guide, teacher, and other roles needs to be developed. If the teacher's role as a driver of creativity is developed optimally, the students' creative thinking ability will also develop optimally.
