Abstract

Mathematics is a subject that exists in all levels of education. Daily life can not be separated from mathematics. This study aims to 1) examine the differences in mathematical literacy skills in solving PISA-oriented content quantity questions for students in terms of gender; 2) describing mathematical literacy skills in grammarization, reasoning, and solving problems with PISA oriented content content; This study was classified as a mix methods study, namely by combining qualitative and quantitative research. The research design used in quantitative research is a quasi-experimental. While the research design used in qualitative research is ethnographic Data collection techniques used are observation, written tests, interviews, and documentation. Test the validity of the data using triangulation techniques and sources. Data analysis techniques for quantitative research use prerequisite testing and hypothesis testing, for qualitative research using flow models. The results showed that 1) there was a difference between the mathematical literacy abilities of male and female students, based on the average obtained that the mathematical literacy abilities of female students were higher than that of male students; 2a) in the ability to label the students still have difficulty translating questions and making conclusions to find information; 2b) there are still many students who are in the process of combining or connecting components, information or variables obtained having difficulties; 2c) students' mistakes in choosing the right strategy are still experienced.
