Abstract

This study aims to describe the error of solving the contextual problem of the subject of circle on the students of class VIII MTsN Surakarta 1 year lesson 2017/2018. The type of research is qualitative. The subject of this research is 6 students of class VIII FD 2 MTsN Surakarta 1. Technique of collecting data in this research using observation method, interview and documentation. Data analysis techniques through data reduction, data presentation, and conclusions. Validity of data by using triangulation technique. The results showed that the types of errors in students with high achievement and low achievement were 1) misconceptions, 2) planning mistakes, 3) mismanagement of plans and 4) Mistakes in examining the solutions obtained. The causes of errors in students with high achievement and low achievement are 1) misconception of problems caused by: students do not understand the problem, not accustomed to answer questions accompanied by what is known and asked, students rarely write things that are known and asked, students want to solve problems quickly and lack of time in doing; 2) misinformation of the plan caused by: not careful in changing the information into the math language and wrong in preparing the plan: 3) the error of carrying out the plan is caused by: students do in a hurry, students are less precise in math calculations, students do not understand what is ordered in the matter and less in managing the time, and 4) The error in examining the solution obtained is caused by: students do in a hurry, students are not accustomed to review the answers obtained, students rarely re-examine the answers obtained and students sometimes re-examine the answers obtained.
