Abstract
The effort of current character building is a much needed thing, considering many behaviors of the late-end students who deviate from the existing rules. Adolescence in general is a junior high school student up to senior high school which is the child will be much interacting with school, which is the school has its own role in educating and nurturing a child's character. Countermeasures to the collapse of character is to remove or to correct the causality factors. One of parents’s method to keep their children’s characters to be good by putting them in boarding schools. This school is the state school but applies a boarding school’s base. The boarding school program is planned to improve the moral character of Karimah, increase the academic achievement and to accommodate the outstanding learners from outside the region whose domicile that can not be reached by daily transportation. In addition, the school emphasizes on Islamic achievements, such as having won the Arabic Speech Contest in 2016, Women's MTQ contest in 2016, and Da'I Muda Contest in 2016. This research will examine what are the efforts of boarding school’s character building program and how the method of implementation of coaching efforts and the value of any character achieved at MTs N 1 Surakarta in academic year 2017/2018. Furthermore, the purpose of this research is to find out what are the efforts of program of character building in boarding school of MTs N 1 Surakarta and know the method of implementation of character building efforts and character values achieved in MTs N 1 Surakarta. This type of research is field note research with qualitative approach. While the collection of data used in this research are interviews, observation, and documentation. Then the method of analysis in this study through data collection process, data reduction, and data presentation. Further drawn conclusions by using deductive methods. Based on the results of the analysis that has been done, it can be concluded that the efforts of character building can be through dormitory programs. Which is divided into four stages: daily program, weekly program, monthly program, and annual program. Then, the method of execution of character building efforts there are five namely Teach, Model, Set Priority, Praxis Priority, and Reflection. After that, the value of the characters achieved in MTs N 1 Surakarta has six, they are: religious, discipline, responsibility, curiosity, friendly and appreciate achievement.
