Abstract
This study aims to describe the planning, implementation, and evaluation of character education of learning self reliance through social science learning in SMP N 1 Tawangsari. This research is qualitative with ethnography design. Data collection techniques use interviews, observation, and documentation. Data analysis techniques use interactive model analysis. The results of this study show: 1) Planning of character education of self-reliance learning in social studies learning is generally made by the principal covering the teachers through the meeting arranging the structure of school activities and determining the division of tasks during one lesson year, discipline, activity plan and school budget or RKAS by taking into account the condition of the students and the surrounding environment. 2) Implementation of education characteristic of self-reliance learning in social studies in junior high school implemented by integrating into the structure and content of curriculum, student coaching program. Integrating the character of independence in the subject of Social Studies appears from the activity of opening and closing the lesson with a prayer by one of the students. Teachers at school monitor the lives of students at school. The indicator is that students can do their work without depending on other students. Utilization of internet media to find the material in accordance with the theme of learning and used in the implementation of the exam so that students are not easy to cheat. Schools develop a conducive culture or school culture, so students can appreciate and apply the values of self-reliance through training and habituation, both in the school setting. 3) Evaluation of character education of self-reliance learning in social science lessons in junior high school is conducted by school principals and teacher councils through monthly, quarterly, semiannual and annual meetings. The evaluation method used is observation or observation and teacher journal. Students who demonstrate appropriate behavior with the expected teacher, get additional value on the affective field that is accumulated on the assessment of learning outcomes semester. While students who show inappropriate behavior get direct coaching by the teacher in question.
