Abstract

The aim of the research is to determine: (1) The effect of learning strategy on mathematic learning outcome. (2) The effect of students' independence towards mathematics learning outcome. (3) the effect of the interaction in independent learning strategies and mathematics students on learning outcomes. This research is a quantitative research, with a quasi-experimental design. There are of 133 students, all of them are eighth grade students of SMP Muhammadiyah 4 Surakarta. The sample consisted of two classes of VIIIA class as a class experiment, with the application of learning strategies and Brain Based Learning for the second grade class VIII B as the control class, with the application of learning strategies Problem Based Learning. Sampling was done by cluster random sampling method. Data collection was taking using the test, questionnaire and documentation. The analysis technique used is a two-way analysis of variance with different cells. Based on the research that has been done with a significance level of 5%, obtained: (1)The are effect learning strategies toward the learning outcome, it is better to use Brain Based Learning rather than Problem Based Learning. (2) there are effect students' independence towards mathematics learning outcomes. (3) there is no interaction between learning strategy and student’s independence toward Mathematic Learning outcome.
