Abstract
This research aims at describing the students’ capability in writing persuasive essay written by the second year students of SMU Muhammadiyah 1 Lasem. It is conducted to know the capability of the students in writing persuasive essay, which is specified into the students’ capability of the development of content, organization, vocabulary, language use, and mechanics. The writer gets the data of this research from document. The technique of collecting data is test of writing persuasive essay to identify the students’ capability in writing persuasive essay at SMU Muhammadiyah 1 Lasem. The result of the analysis shows that the students’ capability in writing persuasive essay at the second year in SMU Muhammadiyah 1 Lasem is fair. The students’ capability of the development of content is ranged from fair to poor. The students’ capability of organization is good to average. The students’ capability of vocabulary is ranged from fair to poor. The students’ capability of language use is ranged from fair to poor. The students’ capability of mechanics is ranged from fair to poor.
