Abstract

Musculoskeletal Disorders (MSDs) encompass a range of symptoms and injuries involving muscles and their supporting skeletal structures. Nursing personnel are particularly susceptible because their duties frequently require patient handling, prolonged trunk flexion, and repeated physical movements. Such problems may diminish physical comfort and interfere with clinical performance. This cross-sectional quantitative study examined whether age, sex, daily working hours, employment tenure, and occupational posture were associated with MSD complaints among nurses at Prof. Dr. R. Soeharso Orthopedic Hospital in Surakarta. All 78 eligible inpatient nurses were included in the assessment. Musculoskeletal symptoms were documented using the Nordic Body Map (NBM), whereas postural risk was appraised through the Rapid Entire Body Assessment (REBA). Descriptive analysis and Fisher's Exact testing indicated no statistically meaningful association for sex (p = 0.449), age (p = 0.377), or daily working hours (p = 0.579). Conversely, employment tenure (p = 0.033) and occupational posture (p = 0.035) demonstrated significant associations with MSD complaints. These results support the routine implementation of ergonomic work practices and scheduled muscle-stretching activities to minimize musculoskeletal risk among nurses.
