Abstract
The ability to use prepositions correctly is a crucial aspect of writing proficiency. However, in practice, many students still make errors in preposition usage, which affects the accuracy of meaning and sentence structure in narrative texts. This study aims to describe errors in preposition usage found in narrative texts written by students. A descriptive-qualitative approach was employed. The data consisted of sentences containing preposition errors from narrative texts written by seventh- grade students at SMP Negeri 1 Colomadu. Data collection involved document analysis, followed by analysis using the distributional method with the Immediate Constituent (BUL) technique. The results indicate that students used various prepositions, namely di, ke, dari, pada, and dengan. The errors found were predominantly associated with the prepositions di (49%), ke (27%), and pada(24%). These findings suggest a need to reinforce students' understanding of preposition functions; therefore, instruction on prepositions at the junior high school level should be delivered more contextually through writing exercises.
