Abstract
This study investigates the effectiveness of TikTok English tutorial videos in improving students' vocabulary mastery and explores students' perceptions of using TikTok as a learning medium. The research employed a mixed-methods approach combining a quasi-experimental design with qualitative descriptive research. The participants were 52 eleventh-grade science students (XI IPA) of Madrasah Aliyah Negeri 4 Ngawi selected through purposive sampling. Quantitative data were collected through pre-test and post-test vocabulary assessments, while qualitative data were obtained from questionnaires, interviews, and documentation. The quantitative data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, normality tests, validity and reliability tests, and a paired-samples t-test with SPSS version 22. The qualitative data were analyzed through data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings revealed a statistically significant improvement in students' vocabulary mastery after the implementation of TikTok English tutorial videos, as indicated by the paired-samples t-test (Sig. 2-tailed < 0.05). Students also expressed positive perceptions toward the use of TikTok because its short, contextual, and audiovisual content enhanced motivation, engagement, vocabulary retention, and learning autonomy. Nevertheless, several challenges were identified, including distractions from non-educational content and dependence on internet access. Overall, the study concludes that TikTok English tutorial videos are an effective supplementary learning medium for improving vocabulary mastery in EFL classrooms.
