Abstract
Prediabetes is a condition where blood glucose exceeds normal levels without meeting diabetes mellitus criteria. Its prevalence among adolescents continues to rise globally, including in Indonesia. Sugar-sweetened beverage consumption and poor nutritional status are suspected to contribute to prediabetes risk in adolescents. This cross-sectional study examined the relationship between sugar-sweetened beverage (SSB) consumption habits and nutritional status with prediabetes incidence among 197 students aged 15–18 years from three high schools in Surakarta. SSB consumption was measured using SQ-FFQ, nutritional status was assessed by BMI-for-age (Z-score), and prediabetes was determined via fasting blood glucose using the GOD-PAP method. Fisher's Exact Test was used for statistical analysis. Results showed 71.6% had high SSB consumption, 84.3% had normal nutritional status, and 8.1% were identified with prediabetes. No significant associations were found between SSB consumption (p=0.245; PR=0.360) or nutritional status (p=0.142; PR=0.411) and prediabetes. Further research with larger samples and better control of confounders such as physical activity, sleep quality, and stress levels is recommended.
