Abstract

This study analyzes the effect of roller mass variation in the Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) system on the performance of a 150cc automatic motorcycle engine. The roller masses used were 9, 12, and 15 grams, tested using a dynamometer to obtain data on torque, power, and specific fuel consumption (SFC) at engine speeds ranging from 3250 to 5000 rpm. The results show that roller mass significantly affects engine performance. The 9-gram roller produced a maximum torque of 19.83 Nm at 4000 rpm with faster initial acceleration but higher fuel consumption. The 12-gram roller achieved 23.28 Nm of torque at 3750 rpm and a maximum power of 12.70 HP at 4500 rpm with good fuel efficiency. Meanwhile, the 15-gram roller showed the best fuel efficiency (SFC 0.13 kg/kWh) but slower initial acceleration. Overall, the 12-gram roller is considered the most optimal configuration, providing the best balance between torque, power, and fuel efficiency.
