Abstract

To create a strong and competitive future generation, education plays a vital role. The current policy initiated by the Ministry of Education and Culture (MoEC) focuses on strengthening character education (PPK), which emphasizes the development of moral values. One of the core characters in PPK is independence, which includes supporting values such as hard work, creativity, discipline, courage, and enthusiasm for learning. This study aims to examine the relationship between emotional intelligence and self-efficacy with learning independence in junior high school students. The population of this study included all 8th grade students at SMP Negeri 2 Margorejo, totaling 168 students, with a research sample of 100 students. Sampling was conducted using probability sampling technique with simple random sampling method. This study uses a quantitative approach with a correlational method. The data collection instrument is a scale, which consists of three scales: emotional intelligence scale, self-efficacy scale, and learning independence scale. The collected data were analyzed using multiple linear regression. The results showed a significant relationship between emotional intelligence and self-efficacy on student learning independence, with a calculated F value of 22.668 which is greater than the F table value of 3.090, and a significance value (sig.) of 0.000 <0.05. The t test also shows that emotional intelligence affects student learning independence, as well as self-efficacy. The R Square value obtained of 0.319 indicates that emotional intelligence and self-efficacy contribute 31.9% to student learning independence, with a contribution from the emotional intelligence variable of 11.3% and the self-efficacy variable of 20.6%.
